A long, steep and brutal climb all pays off generously with sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge and unbelievable displays of Balsam Root wildflowers. This day I hiked many hours later than the crowds in order to catch the sunset just right. I had the summit all to myself and hiked 3 miles back in the dark. Only these images can begin to describe the feeling of being up there alone in such incredible surroundings.
